photography

> i've been into photography from quite a young age (maybe about 4 years old) when i was given a digicam one christmas. it was an awful camera and was only 0.2 megapixels from what i can remember. for my 5th birthday i got a nintendo dsi off my parents and filled the sd card with silly photos almost instantly. i think i used the camera more than the actual games i got with it (except for pokémon diamond, what a goated game). it was my introduction to photography but i was ultimately just a kid messing around.

> around 2016, my dad handed me down his canon digicam as he had upgraded to a dslr. my dad gave me pointers and tips for composition and exposure of photos and thus my skills improved. i'll put an example of a photo i took with the canon digicam below.

>

> i used that camera for a couple of years before eventually losing it. by this point i had my own ipod touch, which came with a camera. i was frustrated by how uninteresting the photos that come out of mobile phones and such. i yearned for something more! this is when i got my dad's nikon d3000 dslr camera.

>

> this camera is the camera i have used the most to date. the last dslr nikon made with a ccd sensor before switching to cmos so the photos it produces have a certain 2000's charm still. i learned how to use the camera in manual and achieve cetain effects such as a long exposure.

>

> i started taking my camera everywhere and got quite good at getting what i wanted out of the photos it produced. by the time i had upgraded to a different camera this is the type of photo i could take.

>

> during the pandemic, film photography made a resurgence. high school me hopped on that bandwagon with both feet. i've been through a few film cameras with my favourite being the praktica mtl3. a fully manual slr from the soviet eastern block. built to last. it is indestructable. using this camera taught me to be more critical of my photography and try to make each shot count since each photo now cost money. the film cost money and so did developing and prints (which i then learned how to do myself at college. i thank my interest in fil photography for making me able to produce higher quality photos more consistantly, teaching me crucial skills and putting me on to bw photography. the next two images is the film camera i used the most and my favourite photo taken on film.

> post-pandemic, the digcam trend came in full swing and i bought into it with a cheap sony cybershot from ebay. i enjoy the care-free approach to it while still being able to capture quite a stunning image given the limitations. below is a photo i took with the cybershot.

> my newest camera is the renound fujifilm x-t1. it's really most things i've ever wanted out of a camera. compact form, with it being mirrorless and excellent film emulation meaning i'm not breaking the bank with film anymore. i really love this camera. below is a photo taken with my x-t1.
